I love SPAM!

No no no no, this is not the annoying comments and emails that we receive. It’s the meat loaf/luncheon meat found in the supermarkets.

I know canned goods are not healthy but I can’t help myself to have spam from time to time.

I remember that this is only available via Balikbayan boxes, it was always the “pasalubong” alongside Victoria Secret colognes. Now it is available in grocery stores and everyone can enjoy spam.

Since my mom doesn’t always grab one when she do the groceries, I found a place where I can enjoy the saltiness. LOL

I found SPAM JAM at SM Megamall, Building A, Second Floor. Their rice meal costs Php99.00 and they have spam sandwiches too.

I have a place to go now whenever I crave for Spam.

Who loves spam?

Christmas and New Year Food Feast!

I am claiming that I am self taught cook. I had back ache cooking for the family last Christmas and New Year. As far as I remember I started cooking when I was 10 years old and since then I am their cook. A MUST have characteristic of a lady who wants to be a wife/mother in the future. I am glad I learned. Hot smile

Here’s what I cooked during Christmas. We call the Christmas Eve dinner Noche Buena.

Filipino Style Spaghetti

Filipino Style Spaghetti

My nephew was with us and my siblings were always child at heart they always request my Spaghetti during special occasions.

Fiesta Ham

Ham

Dad and I received couple of holiday ham so we shall cook them. As for my style I boil it first in fruit cocktail syrup before browning it.

Liempo

Fried Liempo

This was supposed to be grilled but my brother was too lazy to get the gill started so I ended up pan frying it.

We usually do not cook a lot on Christmas because we save everything for new year. My mom is asleep most of our Christmas and since we moved from houses to house we don’t have a Christmas Tree either. Maybe next year we could start decorating.

New Year!!!

We call the New Year’s eve dinner Media Noche I like New Year more than Christmas because of the happy noise and fireworks. I started cooking around 6 PM and finished 10 PM.

Media Noche

What we follow during New Year is to have 12 different round fruits, no chicken in the menu, and the fish is a must have.

Bangus Sisig

Bangus (Milk Fish) Sisig

This is the best seller among the food I cooked. This is a very healthy alternative to pork because it’s fish. I put three chili peppers hear so it’s very hot.

Korean Beef

Korean Beef

This is a staple dish for the family every new year. We should have Korean Beef every new year. This time I toasted the sesame seeds and used two Chili peppers.

Ham de Bola

Ham de Bola

I told you we have a lot of Ham. We still have one more left in the fridge. haha This time I used Sprite (Clear Lemon Flavored Soda) and fruit cocktail to boil it.

Tomato Pesto & Meatballs

Tomato Pesto & Meatballs

I wonder why there were hotdogs. Oh well the Tomato Pesto tasted like the sauce from Italian restaurants Nerd smile. We don’t mix the sauce with the pasta when it’s red sauce. I give freedom on how much sauce they want to pour on their pasta. For other pasta dishes that I cooked I mix it.

Making the meatballs was my favorite part. My hands were dirty that I didn’t took a photo of it.

Vodka

My sister then mixed Strawberry Juice, Iced Tea, Sprite, and Vodka for our cocktail. She was Sous Chef too, she was the one washing the dishes and chopping the ingredients.

The food were gone as of this writing though we were just five in the house I wonder how gluttonous my family member were. hahaha

As for my first day of the year, I spent it in bed as I had bad tonsillitis and asthma from watching fireworks. I hope I will feel better now because I am back to work.

What did you prepare during these two occasions?

Happy New Year everyone!

Lunch Meeting: Italiannis

Last Friday I went to Makati to meet the bosses. We were supposed to head to SMX for the contract signing but they saw some discrepancy so we rescheduled it. We discussed other details instead.

My bosses work for food. We arrived late around 11:45 am after some introduction they asked everyone to have lunch first to fuel our brain.

We went to Greenbelt 2, walking distance from their office and went to Italiannis.

Here are the food we ate.

Pumpkin Soup

Pumpkin Soup

Since this is a lunch meeting with the boss I am extremely shy to capture photos of the food we ate.

We also ordered Caesar Salad and we have gelato for dessert.

What’s funny about this lunch is that they prank the waiters saying that it’s my birthday.

Though I am not a fan of Italian Cuisine I am teaching myself to eat wide varieties of their food after all it tastes good.

We availed the discount card and next meeting we might dine in to Krazy Garlic. I heard the food is great.

It’s Holiday today Ed’l Ftr and tomorrow is also a holiday so I am staying at home.

Sorry for not updating regularly.

Boracay 2012: Food Trip Part III (D’Talipapa)

Hooray for the last part of my food escapade in Boracay. I know it’s overdue my day job and the internet is a little demanding. Winking smile

For our last night, we went to D’Talipapa to buy pasalubong and eat dinner as well. The place is an actual market then you will choose from different kitchen to cook for your desired meal.

134

It’s pretty amazing that fresh fish is available in the market. This one is called Lapu – Lapu. I do not know why it is named after our local hero.

FACT: Lapu-Lapu is the hero who conquered Ferdinand Magellan in Cebu, the period when the Philippines is under the Spanish Colony.

133

This is called the Parrot Fish or Loro obviously because of the color.

I am proud to say that I know how to buy fresh fish and meat in the market. Party smile

Let’s go to the food we ate.

1. Ensaladang Talong

135

Mixed of grilled/boiled eggplant, Salted Egg, and Green Mangoes.

2. Grilled Squid

138

3. Steamed Shrimp

136

4. Kinilaw na Tanigue

139

Fresh fish soaked in Vinegar, ginger, garlic, onion, chili (red & green), spring onions. Great for appetizer.

5. Grilled Scallops

137

6. Sinigang na Isda

140

I find it hard to explain this dish but it more like a stew but the soup is sour. It’s a very common in the Philippines as comfort food I guess. We used different kinds of vegetables to make the soup sour. The sour the better.

I tell you local food is the best you should try eating here in the Philippines. Travel and good food is the best combination you can experience in your life.

I wanted to travel the world but of course I will tour my own country first and eat.

Until next time,

Sammy

Boracay 2012: Food Trip II (928 Café & Grill)

147

The nearest food establishment in the Inn we stayed. They serve breakfast like Tapsilog (Tapa-sinangag-itlog) and other SILOG meals. They also have sandwiches and pastas.

020

Here’s the TAPSILOG.

Sinangag is Fried Rice, Itlog is Egg, I don’t know what Tapa is in English but most likely it’s a marinated sirloin/tenderloin Open-mouthed smile

It costs Php 85 and served with coffee or Iced Tea. The taste for me is generic all dishes like this taste the same.

So I am just sharing.
